The Last Verse

A dear friend of mine writes books… all kinds of books, but in particular great catching novels. A while ago he asked me if I was interested in contributing the music for a video trailer of one of his creations. I jumped at the occasion.

Here’s the result: Interspex. Go for the Hi-Quality version if you have the bandwidth. And buy the book! You can find it here: Lulu.

Dear

So many words untold, between those that are told. So many unexpressed thought. How would the freedom to utter them change the way we live? Would you hate me if I told you all I cannot say? Would you run away, carrying with you my shard of happiness? Still, while I cherish this so ever fragile lightning of joy, I hide more true words waiting for a day that we’ll probably never come.

The Meaning of Innocence

In a 1985 "Postscript" to the novel, Mr. Eco explained just how a postmodern novel differs from the ordinary variety:

I think of the postmodern attitude as that of a man who loves a very cultivated woman and knows he cannot say to her, 'I love you madly,' because he knows that she knows (and that she knows that he knows) that these words have already been written by Barbara Cartland. Still, there is a solution. He can say, 'As Barbara Cartland would put it, I love you madly.' At this point, having avoided false innocence, having said clearly that it is no longer possible to speak innocently, he will nevertheless have said what he wanted to say to the woman: that he loves her, but he loves her in an age of lost innocence. If the woman goes along with this, she will have received a declaration of love all the same.

Is there any real difference between something that intrinsically is, and something he decided to be?

If All Those Little Blue Birds Fly…

Guess who plays the keyboards on these two videos? Yes, that’s right. It’s me. 15 years younger. Much better at anything I did. Oh, and the singer is much more amazing than me… You’ll like her. Thank you Simon for bringing back those memories.
